Power-line transceivers

Since the 80's, ST has pioneered the market offering robust, viable and cost-effective solutions for communication over power lines.

Following the first power-line modems (ST7536 and ST7537), new breakthrough transceivers have been designed using ST’s sub-micron mixed-signal technologies and multi-segment design experience. Enel S.p.A., one of the largest electric utilities worldwide has already integrated millions of ST power-line transceivers in its digital meters in the Italian power network for remote automatic meter reading and other functions.
With integrated an analog front end (AFE) and power-line driver, the ST7538 and the new ST7540 are nowadays the most integrated power-line transceivers available on the market.

They can be inserted into an existing static meter or home-appliance main board by connecting them through the general-purpose I/Os of the microcontroller which is responsible for handling the upper layer of the communication protocol stack and the application commands.
